It's been a long time since Archway locksmith shop have taught this or even used it. But if I remember rightly. It does not bind at all on 114e. When pin and Caming a safe lock. You have 8 levers and 12 heights. So only really 6 heights but the extra pins allow for wear on the brass lever bellies.
No reader is used just feel for bind. Make sure the cam is not lifting. Only when under lever. If a 3 or a 6 is putting you into part anti pick. Then it would do the same with the key as these are true lever height. I have always used the stardom pick on chubbs. As this is quicker. The a b or c roller is at the lowest height of the group and lifts through to the highest. Also remember that the curtain has a raised portion on so blocks the reader key. I found this when at safe ventures and me and jay played with it. And as a result the staddon pick has been changed to suit. This is the reader key. Use black plastercine. Then put in talc powder. Blow off excess and when you get a read. You will get black marks against whitened black.
The beauty of the Staddon is if you have read it correctly you will only have to change pins once for a 114 if it goes into anti pick and it will open the E first time as it doesn’t go into anti pick. The SV can be a pain running the various combos as you are in and out changing pins a lot. But it still does the job. Just not as efficient as the Staddon. Well that's our opinion here at the Archway locksmith shop. I made some reader keys for the 114e which are longer in the upstand than the normally supplied reader keys - the top has been filed down by half so that the key can be raised when entering the curtain allowing the longer blade to enter, and then the key can be lowered and rotated like a normal reader key. This gives no mark, short mark, long mark readings on the levers (same as for the non E) and the opening procedure is then the same. The keys are not my idea and I can’t remember where I saw it or who initially posted it. That may have been me not sure. I remember filing the key at the collar. To get extra lift. Pretty sure I make a video on here. I forgot all about this. As just do safes now. It was a hot topic a while back.
Probably a quickie but all info helpful. Asked to sort a sticky key in a mortice lock. Went to have a look and it's a 3r35 deadlatch. At least 15 people need keys and most are now finding it very tricky to open the door. When it works it's very smooth but you need to get the right wiggle on the key position which isn't very Chubb-like so I'm guessing it’s just a worn curtain and should be an easy fix. Aldridge don't list a 3r35 curtain but it looks exactly like a 3g110 curtain, which they do list. Will that fit you guys at the Archway locksmith? It's an olde worlde Chubb, not a Union cylinder rim lock. |
