When Cricklewood locksmith flipped this off they could see a screw, but assumed it was related to the positioning of the door. Is this what you mean, or are the grommets on the outer face of the door at the bottom.
Also, being a bit thick with sliding doors, I know you have 2 coach bolts like structures that lock into a keyhole shaped slot. How do you disengage the bolts from the slots by lifting the door off its runners. Sounds like a Schlegel. There are some dodgy plastic levers about that the square holes 'round' on, but sometimes the 'button' on the inside edge of the frame isn't going 'home' enough to allow the lever to be operated. I'd get some GT85 in the door gap (or whatever gap you can get there), slightly above the handle-line, and some should find its way into the 'button' mech. also, spray GT85 around the spindle follower, and some in the bottom corner of the track, up against the frame. Then push the door as hard up against the frame as possible, - usually you're fighting dirt/debris in the bottom corner of the track, which prevents the door sliding closed enough to activate the button.
Then sometimes a gentle rocking of the spindle with a pair of mole-grips works, cause even if some of the teeth on the follower wheel are shot, it can sometimes move just enough to get the mechanism to open. Another option for Cricklewood locksmith though you need to watch out that the door doesn't come out of the runners and fall, is to get a spreader under the door, and put your foot on the handle to gently rock the door up and down slightly. That can be enough to free up the bolts from the frame. I have tried to upload photos I took when I first visited the job, but for some reason my password is not accepted so I am unable to do so. The link below is for a Schlegel mechanism on ebay. If I were to drill 2 holes, both 10mm below the handle screw holes, I think the bottom hole would allow the push button to be fully retracted and the upper hole would give access to the mechanism to allow the mushroom bolts to be moved.
The only reason I am thinking this is because when I first visited, I did have a spreader under the door and I did try lifting the door up and down, but with no joy. I think it's worth a try. I think that one hole will allow the button to be retracted, assuming there's no broken bits fallen down to jam it. As for accessing the mechanism sliders, I think it'll just be trial and error really, but you haven't got much to lose really. Give the bent screwdriver technique a try through the hole. Shame there isn't much of a gap, or you could belt the bolts up and down until they give in! I wish you luck Cricklewood locksmith guys. |
