Just back from that flat you sent me to East London locksmith, where the landlord had described the lock as being a bit 'sticky' pale shocked turned out to be my first encounter with a Wellington 5-Lever Cylinder, in a sashcase. It just needed a stripdown really, and a good lubrication, and the strike plate adjusting. The key felt a bit sloppy in the keyway though.
Am I correct in thinking the Sashcase is specifically for this Wellington cylinder, or can alternative cylinders be used? The deadbolt was driven off a short 'tail' similar to a Yale, but of course fitting a Yale Cylinder wouldn't work because of the thumbturn on the inside. Just curious really. The door lock handles look specific to the Wellington too. Certainly a very interesting set-up. As far as I know it is specific for a Wellington cylinder, and I don't know of another 'replacement' that will fit the case. Could be wrong though? Relacement keys would help if anyone knows where to get them. Does anyone know if these are still available, just in case LOL. Neither SKS, nor Duffels have them listed as far as I can see. Not sure if this is the right item of locksmith equipment your looking for from your comments, but here is a possibility, fingers crossed you won’t believe your luck but I took 6 of these of today so I will bring you both cylinder and mortice case on Saturday do you need the furniture as well.
It'll be great to be able to have a better look at them in the East London locksmith shop, as I was a bit limited in time yesterday, as the Customer was in a bit of a hurry. Do you see these locks often then? I always thought they were mainly in London, so wasn't a bit surprised to find a block of flats here with them on most doors. (Looks like I should get practicing picking these too, just in case! LOL!). Mind you, don't know about picking them, the key was so sloppy in this one it'd barely open with the key, when I got to it at the start, though it was considerably better afterwards. Well I'd be interested to see anything that goes with it really. It was really a 'baptism by fire', due to lack of time, so it was quickly get the lock and case out of the door, open them up, clean them, lubricate, put back and test. Talk about learning on the job! LOL. (If I thought about it too much, I'd never do it!)
I know about the drill point on the other Wellington (the one without the cylinder, where you access the 'follower'), but don't know much about the cylinder version. Yes, certainly is weird! Never seen one of these before on a locked out of garage door job, so was a bit unsure about stripping it down, though I was sure it was a Wellington once I saw the keyway, and certain it was, once I saw 'Wellington' on the front! It'd be good to see how they're picked. I'm just going to find up the photos I have of them and send them over to the East London locksmith shop, to have a quick look, though you can't beat seeing them in real life. Looks like the bolt-thrower is closest to the keyhole on these? And no anti-picks? |
