Hackney locksmith have recently bought the safe ventures 3g114 pin and cam and finding it a bit stressful to be the least, as with the old 3g114 compared to the new 3g114e i understand that the leavers on the plastercine read different and that the different in knowing the difference in lock is from the distance of the actual curtain.
My problem is that it is said that you don't have to use the plastercin if you do not wish but you run the damage of bending pins if over tensioned. I have tried this a few times but I eventually hit a point were none of the levers bind and basically feels like i hit a brick wall as don't know where to go from here if anyone has any knowledge of this tool please can you share. You point blank will NOT get a read off an E with a std reader key. It needs to be modified. I sold my SV 114 decoder a while back as I prefer the Hackney locksmith reckon Staddon but I’m sure the key can easily be modified to get around the curtain too. There is quite a lot on here on the subject if you dig around, there is a pic of the key filed down too which i will try and dig out but I’m not as adept as some at finding old topics.
Try and forget about the 114e. As this will not read. You can make a grouping reader key. I.e. A B C. Or scope the back of the levers. Remember this Union locks an aba i.e. Levers 3 and 5 will always be the same due to key symmetry. Take a reading on a 114 of the back of the levers. Remember to snap the curtain. Then with the readings put into groups. Say you had a no mark a long mark smallmark. No mark and a small mark. Acbab would be the code. No mark a is 1/2 pin Small mark b 345. Long mark 678. Now put the highest pin of that group into the pick. 16313. Then look for bind. Remember you can only change the pin to the lowest of that group. So for an a pin no more than 1 pin change and for the other groups 2 pin changes. Remember if loading a 3 then go to a 4 straight away. If it binds on 4 or 5 then it's a 3. Same with the c group.
See below a glorious old Chubb bolt lock. While looking as though it's been salvaged from a submarine, it is fabulously smooth in operation, like butter, and quite oily. (Is this why they call it a 'chub on'?) The book we have at the Hackney locksmith shop just calls this an 'old' Chubb cylinder lock. Brass circular curtain. The book one has an oval keyway hardplate but this one has no hardplate, maybe because it's built like a tank. I'm assuming it is a 114. Side by side I only see time as the difference. And that you can take all the levers out at once on their beautifully engineered brass pivot pin. |
