There's a 24 Hour Locksmith at that key cutting near me tool shop he does a good one that I think works well for overlifting and over-lifting on curtain door locks is an interesting subject. I love my Cb multi gauge for curtain picking but I find on certain locks Jays tlc pick to be superior.
I wish he would make one with a slightly longer tension bar that isn't in a fixed mid position. (That would be the tool to have). When it comes to over-lifting on a modern 5 leaver lock Jays tlc pick works very well. But having experimented with quite a few locks I have come to the conclusion unless the lifts are very similar it can’t be done consistently and never on a padlock. If there is a low no 1 or 5 leaver by lifting the pack in 2 lifts you can still defeat the lock. But if the lock has a mixed arrangement of leavers, because you are forced to lift from the front of the pack, I doubt you will ever get a lot of success. I would love to be proved wrong on this but I don't think I will be. All comes down to lever configuration. You do sometimes though get locks with a good mixture of high and low lifts to go, but it really comes down to the lock itself. This won't apply to non curtain locks. Need a little help. I am currently working on the Viscount I recently bought and have watched the videos on this lock and how to pick it.
I can decode the lever pack (as in which is a high and a low) but just can’t pick it without looking at the pack via the slot in the case. I lift the highs and corkscrew round the lows but find that the highs never seem to sit right and am struggling to get the feel for which lever is set correctly. Any advice would be appreciated otherwise I'll just get some cut at the 24 hour locksmith that does key cutting near me. Really something that you need to be shown, as it's difficult to explain in words? Reading highs and lows, and picking accordingly will not work on all locks of this type. It really comes down to the lock itself. As a tip though, first cover up the slot where you can see the lever gating, it won't do you any favours. Then as opposed to trying to de-code the lock (highs and lows) go for basic picking, looking for 'binding' levers.
You will know where the anti-pick is as you pick through the lock as if you only nudge the lever, and it falls into a false fence, the anti-pick on the top fence. If you lift it high and it falls into a false fence, the anti-pick is on the bottom fence. Use this as you pick through the lock, reset if you have to, and try to remember what you lifted and how much when it threw you into anti-pick. If a lever you only nudge up a small amount puts you in anti-pick, next time you lift it control and ease back with the tension a fraction to lift it past the top fence, then re-apply the tension. If all this fails there's an emergency 24 Hour Locksmith who does key cutting near me. |
