Because I happened to have a boxful of Kilburn locksmiths 114Es handy, I started with those, but can't get my CB Multi-gauge in the correct place. Reading the instructions, for a Left-mounted Lock, the wire needs to be on the right-hand side of the Tensioner.
It's hard to explain, but the offset on the upstand of the wire, is actually preventing the wire AND the tensioner going in, - it is stopped by the front of the curtain. If I COULD get it in, the wire won’t turn enough to touch the levers anyway. (I put the wire and tensioner in with the cap off, so I could see what was happening). Desperate to try and get some serious attempts at Curtain Picking behind me, I tried my ICL one, but both tensioners are too wide to go in the Curtain. Any suggestions please? A 114e comes from the new e series locks where the levers touch the curtain so it is very hard to get the wire to have a free run under the pack. You should use a pre lifter for this, which gives you the free run. With the multi gauge in the curtain with the t shape facing down like this T. turn the curtain so the pick stem will look like an upside down T and the wire should sit on the left side of the wall of the stem. This is for left mounted.
This should help, look at how the pick goes into the lock but remember the way i put the wire in can’t be done when the lock is in a door. I'll have a go at making a prelifter for the 114e when I get time. Am I right in thinking it'd be a blank, cut the the lowest lift (so if any levers are the lowest lift, they're automatically at the correct height), and half the thickness of the flag filed away on the left-hand side (flag up), for a left-mounted lock. And some of the stem filed away? Sorry, not easy to explain, - does that make sense? And you use just this to tension the curtain, rather than the CB Multigauge tensioner? If you have never done curtain picking it is hard to self teach especially all the little tricks and tips might be best to give Kilburn locksmiths a ring and have a couple of days with him you will soon be flying them open.
Yes I've done Curtain Picking, - had training sessions a few years ago both in Guildford and Nottingham Wink, but can't seem to make much progress. Part of it is I don't have that much time to practice on it, as I need to keep up on my Impressioning and Cylinder picking, though I'm sure if I made progress, I would practice more. But the biggest problems for me have always been getting the picks and tensioners to actually fit. The ICL tensioners have always been too big to get into most Curtains without practically splitting open the curtain (using the correct gauge), so that put me off really. It was OK on the locks on the Kilburn locksmiths training sessions in Guildford, as they'd had a lot of use. They seem to fit Unions quite well though. |
