We have a used locking file cabinet that's been forced. Was fair force the probably answer to such occurrences of keys being trapped? The safe guy probably wasn’t there that long so doubt drills came out. Just curious as I wasn’t on site when the job was done.
There are a few ways it can be done without drilling. But depends on how stuck the key is. With double bitted. The key is in the middle of the levers so can get jammed nearly. A scope to see what's going on. A knowledge of the lock and safe and what anti tamer bits are fitted. Would not of been graceful. Had the same on a Chubb Isolator safe which has the detachable bits inserted into a long stem with a screw on the end holding it in place. They had put the key bit in the stem the wrong way and jammed it in the lock. This was a safe that I walked away from and got somebody who knew the inside layout to do the job. , you did the correct thing as you can cause more problems if you force the key. My second jammed key was a Chatwood Milner Invincible double bitted key that was jammed in the lock, turned out the reason was the door wasn't fully shut because they had trapped a cloth money bag in the boltwork of the safe.
Sat on the floor with my back to the wall kicked the door shut as hard as I could, this shut the door properly enabling me to open the safe and remove the key from the lock. A safe door can be jammed quite effectively by placing a small coin (1p / 5p) at the bottom of the door opening, then slamming the door shut hard, and slamming round the bolt control handle, then locking! Deadbeat hammer can help here. Have had coins stuck in safes and bizarrely a filing cabinet key stuck in the top left corner which was a pain to remove. Got to open one of those cheapy double bitted locking file cabinet. Never done one, I’m guessing they pick easy enough with a 2 in 1 pick? I can't see it being anything too fancy customer recons it’s a Yale. It is possible to open with a 2 in 1 but with double bitted I would want a clicker. As not to get lost in the pack. Didn't think dreads had double bitted keys on.
They are normally small power locks. Might have been changed for a mauer. Round door or square door Churchill will have the model on the keyhole cover Churchill fitted Mauer 71071, Mauer 71111 or a FAS 6880 my pick only does the 71111 it is possible that the lock has been changed for something else along the way. Round lid, it hasn’t long been installed so I doubt it’s been messed with. As usual though customer won't pay for a safe engineer because there isn’t a fat lot in it. I had a look on the off chance it was an easy one. Gold painted lid will be a mauer 71111, older will be 71071 or FAS. Another locking file cabinet satisfied customer. |
