The locksmith Archway sent me to this house it's empty and locked it has a bad tenant in so there are no keys and the locks will need replacing anyway it will need doing from the outside.
I have couple of multi locks that I have snapped front of and then drilled straight down pins this seemed to work all right but wondered if there was any other advice? I will chip in here for what it is worth and say to Paul don't get too afraid of the job otherwise you will almost talk yourself out of it, the way the start of this post went was probably going to scare the crap out of you. Sometimes it is not all about picking a lock, sometimes it is the fastest most efficient way to open a door and for that there are many different options. If you have trained properly and done your homework and of course have the tools. Yes of course always try to better yourself and pick locks but on a door the reality is quite different sometimes and a locksmith should approach a door with various methods of entry in mind including, what other doors are there, conditions, customer attitude etc. etc. and the list goes on and on.
Just spoke to the guys at the locksmith Archway and they are offering a positive word of advice to not let a job get the better of you otherwise you will not learn and progress. It’s just a door and a bit of metal and wood or plastic. Thanks I have a couple of carbon tungsten tip drill bits I bought at in a locksmiths in the area I was working in last week, so should go through, once done I will have to get round to getting the picks for them and a bit of practice for the next time. The bloke in the paper shop near me said it's amazing how often people get locked out of the house from what they tell him and they always do you know a cheap locksmith near me, naturally I have left him my card with my locksmith phone number on. Had 6 garrison oval and turns to open because the squaddies had gone to foreign climes and the company on site needed to do asbestos checks on the squaddies rooms. Tried picking but got nowhere but managed to drill open all of them quite easily. I didn't drill the plug but drilled the euro body, if you drill just about where the mul-t-lock symbol is, you miss the anti-drill plate. All the pins drop into the bottom allowing you to turn the plug and unlock. Don’t stress about it too much, one of my first ever jobs was a garrison euro, drilled it no problems, this was a few years ago but keep calm and treat it like any other job, worth having a good number of hardplate drills in the van for future jobs.
Very true I know a few locksmiths who only carry 1 or 2 hard plate bits, what happens if one is blunt for example and you snap the other before the lock is opened? Definitely essential to have plenty of hard plate bits in the van at all times. I’ve been given one of these corbin eurostar plus euro profile cylinders, it’s 6 pin, with the garrison type keyway, I’ve had a go at hand picking it but I don't seem to be getting anywhere with it. On the underside of the lock where the pin plugs are the second plug is black and that pin is the only one that seems to set, but it just doesn’t feel right, what is this black pin? And is it the reason that it’s not picking. The manager at the locksmith Archway thinks I’ve got a bit over confident with the garrison. Am I right in thinking this corbin is a different kettle of fish? (Made by black & decker) |
