If I’ve read your question correct Tom in the locksmith Beckenham shop, a plug spinner is for if you've picked the cylinder in the wrong direction to unlock. To engage the cam, use a filed down key of the correct profile, insert the key, that will engage the cam before you pick the lock?
A length of spring steel inserted will also do the same job but remember to do this before you attempt to pick the lock. A couple of options, to either use a cut down blank to pick up the cam after picking. or a thin piece of wire to locate and pick up the cam. Remember the safe zone is between 1 and 11 o'clock. Work from 1 to 11 if opening clockwise, and from 11 to 1 if anti-clockwise. Depending where you pick up the cam, it will either open with picking up the cam once, or maybe a couple of times depending on how much rotation you get before the 12 o'clock danger zone? If the lock was last locked from outside using the key then the thumbturn on the inside will be almost dead in line so if you go almost back to 12 o'clock you can pick up the cam there, you have to be brave though and it's all about timing, doing it this way means the cam can be picked up all in one go instead of inching it round bit at a time.
Sometimes it looks so close to 12oclock you think you have reset the plug as it makes a loud click but if you turn instantly as you here the click it works. Have a 7 pin garrison lock which I have been trying unsuccessfully to pick open , can get the plug to turn a fraction but won't go any further, well locksmith Beckenham any tips or ideas of how to open it?. Problem is I haven't got the expensive Garrison pick, I have the cheap GOSO set like in video 2, which doesn't give you a guide to the positions of the pins like the pick you have. Will go back and have lots of practise on the lock I have, then maybe it might be time to buy myself the more expensive pick any idea how much it is. You don’t need special picks to open these anyway a pointed half diamond will do. Garrisons turn slightly as soon as you insert a pick, there’s 7 spools so just light tension and lift each one out you get a lot more feedback from these than a normal cylinder.
If this helps anyone when I was using the goso set picking a garrison I got nowhere until I rounded of the shaft with a file, found it so much easier picked pretty quick after that, most garrisons I’ve had have bumped to. Just to verify this Garrison thing. The original lock was called 7 7 though the blank came with the number 76 stamped on it. The Garrison is the UK version for that lock as it is still made in Israel but get assembled in Mul-t-lock factory in the UK. The older version are hard to pick but can be bumped, according to the guys at the locksmith Beckenham work shop, the new ones have mushroom pins and always number 6 cut (the deepest one) in the key. |
