The Locksmith Bloomsbury shop could only find 2 45/92 keywinds which would either need striping centre case off & rebuilding or re-working the door & new keeps, explained this to customer who does not want the door or frame to be altered, so does anybody know where or have one of these.
I was called to a broken lock today which left me scratching my head bit. The lock seems to be a Fullex MPL with 68mm centres, it's been looked all bolts thrown and now won't unlock at all. My first thought was, if only I had spreaders, but the customer seemed to think at least one of the bolts was a hook. He'd put up with it for a couple of weeks, s I've just told him I'll get back next week to help. First thing to try is to make sure the handle is lifted as high as it will go, hold it in that position and try turning the key then. Give the key sharp flicks as you try, but not too much that you break the key! Some of the fullex`s on the 68 centres have a hook between the latch and the top deadbolt. Try as we suggest first but if you can’t get the cam to engage these aren’t nice to spread when deadlocked.
Get the cylinder out of the way and get a wire bent at a right angle approx 20mm, angle towards the bolt and feel for a bit of spring pressure above where you would think the cylinder cam would pick up, once you find this lift slightly and pull back, you have to draw the bolt back on these to release the handles. Have had a few of these and they always open this way. Locksmith Bloomsbury shop said another problem you can get on these which gives you the same symptoms is the hook in question is resting tight on the strike. Get a bar or pedal under the door and lift it up to take the pressure off a little, then whilst holding it there lift the handles up with a fair amount of pressure and try and unlock. Common on the Lockmaster platform too this is where the key goes really tight or won’t turn at all. The ball bearing in the top deadbolt gearbox needs a coating of grease, snap the cylinder and turn the lock with the cam turner.
Was called to a broken Fullex over Christmas last year as the guy couldn't get out, he had a side door so was able to get to both sides. Unscrewed the handles and could see that the split follower that the handle went through half of it was missing. The lock had a split spindle so put a solid spindle as temporary to last over the Christmas period, then went back and fitted a new gearbox. I had one with a seized ball-bearing about six weeks ago. That was the cause of the jammed mech. If it's a jammed Fullex, I always target the top deadbolt with airbag and spreaders now. You guys sure about this? The top deadbolt bearing is nearly always the cause of the handles not releasing once unlocked but at the locksmith Bloomsbury shop have never found this to be the cause of not being able to un-deadlock from the key? |
