Locksmith Brighton got sent to a composite door with lockmaster 3 dead bolts (ver 1) the key opened the middle dead bolt but handle was seized so cannot bring back the latch and other 2 d/bolts. I have tried :-
1 heavy pressure on handle/spindle - now just turns does nothing. 2 pushing back the dead bolts- locked in place. 3 door spreader to take off any pressure on the bolts. 4 snapped out the lock and tried wiggly screw driver - did feel as though I had caught the rail but was solid. I have taken a part an old gear box to see if I can id another way-but can't really Try taking the weight off the door and then putting some pressure on the bolts. I use the door hanging contraptions, can’t think what they are called now, like a see-saw with a foot pedal god its early, my brains not working properly yet. If you use the thickest L Wire you got, insert it in the keep to get a good grip on the bolt if you have room, a twisting action is usually enough to pull them back. If still solid and you have the room then cut them mate, it gets the job done. Do me a favour though, take a pic of the open gearbox once you done as have never had a Lockmaster go completely solid like that, be interesting to see what’s causing it. Have you tried pulling the bolts back since you shattered the follower?
You might find bolts will move now. Locksmith Brighton said drill a 10mm hole into door to expose lockcase about 10mm above top of euro cut out and check that the locking thing has flipped over the lug into the unlocked position - if not try to use flat screwdriver to lift it and flip it back over the lug. Handle will cover hole. See if it is twin spindle and maybe use that second follower to retract bolts. Always worth drilling for it even if you can’t see anything to suggest it has - handle will cover hole. Did check unfortunately single boo! Did try relieving the pressure/weight but on your own not convinced I was total lifting the door so one of those door lifters is on the cards!
Have looked at drilling further up but if it doesn't work it looks to the customer like you haven't a clue will try as Sid said the follower gone so maybe it will now move cheers will let you all know how I get on! Still worth a 10mm hole just above the euro hole into the door to expose lockcase to check the locking bit has been located to the rear of the lockcase never had to grind one out but drilled one to death when I first started era vectis hadn't got a clue where to drill it. I don't like the idea of grinding inside a customer’s house! I've never had to do it yet and hopefully it won't ever happen. I always do as locksmith Brighton says and drill a hole to check if the catch the cam touches is all the way back first. I’ve had some super seized mechanism and always managed to fiddle them open one way or another. |
