Thanks you guys at the locksmith Caterham but no good, the adaptor converts 5mm to 8mm and I need a 5mm window spindle, that would still leave the 35mm screw centres as an issue. I might struggle with this one, I have a feeling these handles are long since discontinued.
Went out to one of these locks again, second one recently, handles not pulling latch back. After stripping mechanism discovered that the brass spindle carrier was worn. The previous one was the same. Obviously a design fault. Has anyone found an easy fix for this or can you get a replacement part, or do I have to replace the lock case? It is the most common fault for this lock and unfortunately as Yale have moved to a new platform the replacement gearbox has doubled in price. Charge accordingly. I have to replace a winkhaus gearbox the end of this week. I have a quick question, do you re rivet or drill and tap, I can find the right size rivets anywhere I just use the pins I Knock out, you can use a bit of adhesive to hold them in place or re bur the edges over that's what I do. There is probably a dozen or so ways to get the same result, but that's a start for you. You’ll easily see what way the rivets come out, small needle punch, place the gear box on something solid, (I normally use my pliers) good thumb and they should pop out.
Quite straight forward, just take you time and don't forget the single screw in the case. Had a strange one today. Fullex mech on a wooden door 20mm faceplate + 2 deadbolts, DB and latch. The Customer the locksmith Caterham the problem was the latch was stuck in. When the handles were depressed, the latch withdrew only a further 2mm. After removing the mechanism, and checking over the gearbox, all appeared to be working fine. I removed the latch, as I suspected it may be snagging on the side of the faceplate (there are front and back faceplates on these), but this turned out not to be the case. Everything looked fine. I thought about packing the strike plate out, but this wasn't practical, so put a little packing in behind the latch, which proved to be too much. Really puzzled over this one.
Going to see if I've got an old Fullex out in the workshop so I can investigate further. Does anyone know if the 'throw' of the latch is adjustable from the rear of the gearbox on these? You do get 2 versions though, a short and a long throw latch. your problem here is the latch is adrift internally, I would go back asap as i reckon the door is really close to having the latch come away completely and will end up bridging the gearbox and strike. Not a nice opening if it’s a lockout mate, had a long latch version do exactly the same in a UPVC last week and was a bloody mare of a job. Is the gearbox set up as split spindle? Locksmith Caterham have had loads of these where fitted with a split spindle by installers but the pin was never snapped to activate operation only to snap several years down the line. |
