As locksmith E3 guy said the screws are behind the back plate cover. Only problem with these is they can be corroded on, especially onto the spindle. But union monarch handles are readily available.
I have a customer that wants to replace the MPL on his door it's currently a KFV, 2 pin, L/L lock on a wooden door. The situation is his kids keep either going out or coming in and not locking it so any tom dick or pickey can just walk straight in. No problem replace mechanism with a split spindle, but these are no longer available from KFV . I was wondering if I replaced the mechanism with a keywind and had a pull rather than a handle externally, would it still work? Can't see why not, but just wanted to check before ordering the wrong thing as they have already had another lockie round that didn't go to plan. It would still work as long as the mechanism you are fitting has the ability to pull the latch back with the key. Had an era vectis mpl which when in the unlocked position still won’t open, wondering what the problem is and what is the best way to open those.
If the handle moves down a little then stops it's probably a broken spring. It happens a lot on normal euro era mechanism which is pretty much the same but without the levers. Usually the spring cassette at the back of the case brakes and a piece falls down onto the other workings stopping them opening. Locksmith E3 did loads when we had the council contract but on the euro version. Sometimes when you snap out the euro the piece falls out and the door will the open. Spreading it and knocking the hooks in doesn’t work as the broken piece wedges in such a way that it seizes the sliding price in the gearbox so the hooks won't budge. You can drill a big hole saw hole into the case and fish the broken piece out using long nose pliers only drill the case though and not into any of the workings then the handle should pull down as normal when the piece is removed, the bit you are looking for will be a small grey price with teeth on. Or try rattle the door to free the piece and it should open depends where it's stuck and how much it's wedged in. I had thought of drilling lock case as its knackered any way, can it be replaced with just a gearbox or is it the whole mechanism as I have never had to replace one before.
Yes door is unlocked as when you turn the key you can hear it click open, also when outside handle is removed slot in mechanism shows that it is in the unlocked position, sometimes the hooks on the Era don't retract fully when the handle is pushed down. If the handle is not going down then as previously said it is a broken piece in the gearbox jamming the sliders. Locksmith E3 said as you know it's unlocked just force the handle down and bang a new gearbox on dead cheap, If a hook bolt isn't retracting lift handle and then push down fast, that usually brings the hook in. |
