Continue to the urgent locksmith E5 shop and they will open the lock. Try not to think of it as initially picking the lock, but 'reading' the lock, getting a feel for where things are. Hope this helps.
Some good tips there. I think part of my problem is I tend to lose my position in the lever pack (levers 2, 3 & 4) and am at times unsure just which one i am on, which quite often leads to the levers being over lifted Embarrassed I'll try a different approach to the lock as you suggested and try for the binding levers rather than just decoding and doing the highs first. Well after about 4 hrs this afternoon following the technique you suggested I have cracked it very happy. Also this has worked a treat on a Union 2134E I bought today, got them both open in only a few minutes. Do you think it will work on a padlock. The advice to give on my favourite subject, but I will add a little something, when picking the high and low method remember to put on slightly more tension and lift the highs to set.
But you may just need a small nudge on 1 low just to start the lock working and you can feather the tension on and off once lifted the highs to allow them to set or fall back down into the true gating. Are you buying locks from the locksmith E5 shop just to practice with? I don't know what it's costing you but if you can sort the postage cost I will send you some used (various makes) to practice with? Does anyone have any advice on how to make a pre-lifter from a key? I'll probably try it on a 3g114 to start with. Use a brass blank so it's easy to file, file key to the height of the lowest lever in the lock you want to make the pre lifter for. Then file enough of the key away so the wire will fit in the lock at the same time as the key. Just file a bit and try it and file again until you can fit both wire and key in with enough room to move the wire around.
just read my post back again and it sounds a bit miss leading, when i say file to the height of the lowest lever i mean the lowest lever you can get in that make of lock, not the lowest lever in the particular lock you have on your bench. Right over the weekend I grabbed a few key blanks, found a cut key with a very deep cut on it and started to file, cramp soon kicked in but I stuck with it and result. My first own tool made !! I can now get my pick under the levers (though actual picking it is a whole different ball game) I did have a look inside the door locks case 3G114, at the 24 hour locksmith E5 shop and did see a lever I'd never seen, where 4 of the 5 levers were tight against the curtain, the first was entirely different to the point where my pick could hardly reach it let alone lift it. |
