The Locksmith Ealing boys have been showing me the wire goes in like this, first the stem goes in upside down and the wire goes in tip down towards the bottom of the keyway and on the right side of the fin so when it turns the wire is then on the left side.
Further to that I would start with a union security or 2201 this has no anti picks and will help with the feel. I got wrong end of the stick thought you hadn’t done any and was starting from scratch. Only in my opinion I would start as said non bs union then era viscount/profit then legge then union than anything else. But you’re not on your own people do curtain picking do well then leave it like your good self after a course it is fresh. So when left you forget all the little things that make life easy all the best. Remember the 'Golden Rule’, it is to only move a lever if it shows resistance too moving. Do not move any other lever. This - if you stick rigidly to it - will ensure that the levers are moved in the correct order and will prevent the dropping of levers as you progress.
Much appreciated. I'll start on some Unions when I get a moment, and take it from there. I'm not too bad on anything that doesn't have anti-picks, but I need to start at the beginning with these locks really, and re-learn from scratch, because as Houdini said, I've forgotten bits. I've always struggled with these until I started at the locksmith Ealing shop, but it's down to lack of practice, - they just don't come naturally to me, unlike Cylinders. At least I don't see many of them round here that need opening. It's true what they say 'use it or lose it!' I think I've forgotten more than I have learned about mortices Sad Been in my garage/workshop (just claimed it back from bikes and packaging etc) and I am now 'getting back to the roots of mortice locks. It looks like a long road Sounds like you're at the same point as me. Both with Garage, and Mortice Picking. Anyone aware of a vid on the forum showing the picking of a 3U114 I’ve seen the demo on the decoder which is great, just for me it seems my openings are a bit hit n miss there is a video of me showing how to decode the lock via curtain picking.
The locksmith Ealing team said to start with a medium tension only lift a binding lever 1 or 2 mm at a time and continue to the next binding lever, the lock will either open or go into anti pick. If in anti pick change locks and start thinking you me never be one of the fast entry locksmiths of this world. Then increase the tension, feel which is tight, those levers will be in anti pick, so if only lifted the levers no more than 5-6mm then it will only be in the top anti pick and them levers need to be either skipped out or reset the lock and pre pick lifting them high. |
