I got my Dino from the locksmith Hampstead shop and it has been in use daily for years. It opens just about everything I come up against. What doesn't want to open in less than twenty seconds gets opened with the TL gun. Different cylinders respond to different frequencies and power.
I have recently also bought the Kronos gun from the Germans which is cheaper than the Dino or TL and so far I'm very impressed, hasn't failed yet. A big mistake people make with the Dino is they don't realise the blade strikes on the upwards stroke. Which means you have to hold it upside down when opening a euro cylinder. I find the Dino to be ok, a bit weird how you have to hold it upside down though. Took me a bit of getting used to but does do the job. If I can't open it with Dino I use hpc. Very, its cheaper than a Dino excellent build quality as you'd expect. A great well machined blade holder that hold the blades much better than standard so they don't snap easily. Very user friendly way to alter bounce just by turning a screw that doesn't need to be locked off. Good power, good battery life and a usb charger you can use in the van. Only negative if this bothers anyone is it doesn't come with a case. Did I mention its cheaper than a Dino or TL.
Has anyone put the Kronos pick gun to test the Dino has opened most for me my Dino was ok but it had a replacement battery and recently it refuses to hold a charge. I hope this Kronos has a better battery. Think there is an overload protection in the dino that causes problems. Though my battery was on the way out sent it to SKS for a replacement battery but it still cuts out The dino will pick some locks without turning it upside down. I bought my mhp gun at the locksmith Hampstead shop as well when it came out supposed to be the dogs dangles for over £400. Bitterly disappointed with its performance, this new gun looks to be a cheap version of the mhp. The mhp was thrown aside as a waste of time. I was always under the impression that the problem was a poor connection as aluminium is a poor conductor of electricity. I made a metal connection on the end and it seemed to have more power. Before i scrap cylinders i pick them and the mhp is certainly working better.
Hope I didn't waste my money, seem to be more not so fond of it as favour it. Since I started this thread, I have had some more successes with it, but still do better with the Majestic Lockaid. Constricted keyways still sending out showers of brass dust but I've only broken one more needle. I'll look for some more at the locksmith Hampstead when over there this week. Do other users break needles in the field? I see why the Dino comes packaged with a broken key extractor Smile. In the 1960's the only cylinders I encountered with mushroom drivers were new Yales, mostly the ones I was fitting. Likewise, anti-thrust latchbolts. |
