Have you chaps at the locksmith Hayes made any special keys for the X5 Yale cylinders that are on the PBS1/2? I want to make a set when I get a chance. I repined an X5 the other day, and it only had one security pin in, which surprised me really. These have to be bumpable, but not sure on the Kitemarked Euros.
It’s interesting that on the modern locks, we find that we are reverting back to the basics on picking. I wonder if I am correct in thinking the manufactures have focused on making locks that don't respond well to pick-guns/epg or bumping, but the latest design of locks makes them more susceptible to spp'ing. I have noticed in the past that padlocks and shutter locks seem to spp better than any other method. I feel a practice day coming on. Have picked some and some not, they don’t incorporate the zero lift as per UAPs, however the UAP zero lifts can be bumped with special keys, designed and made on another forum, pm if anyone interested and will give you details, not sure he would appreciate it if I posted details. Has anybody picked the new Yale antisnap yet? Keyway is huge so no problems getting picks in etc. Just doesn’t seem to bind pins as easily as the Yale bs non antisnap? Just looked at the anti-snap cylinder on the Yale website and it looks like it also has four trap pins so the back of the key or similar needs inserting to be able get tension on the lock?
There are four plugged holes in the top of the cylinder case above the keyway in the new one in the Yale vid, I thought that these must stop the plug rotating without a key blade inserted either by pins or bar obstructing the top of the plug. Maybe that is only on the latest one? Good idea never thought of that maybe they help hold the plug tighter as there's little to no movement in the plug when you tension which makes it harder to bind pins I'll give it ago when I get chance. Just occurred to to us in the locksmith Hayes workshop we may have missed the obvious here, the four plugged holes are probably be the only way that Yale had access to fit the bottom pins with their anti- snap design and are not trap pins. That was the problem; I had ie nothing binding at all. In my experience I have found that if the lock has trap pins, you can pick to 3% then any further rotating of the lock engages the trap pins. The trap pins can then be compromised and the lock opened. The thing to note on trap pins if activated you can’t always reset the lock, even with the correct key.
They are just well made locks with high tolerances. ie: there is very little to no difference between the diameter of each pins so they don’t bind one at a time as obviously as a cheaper lock. The X5 bump a treat, I don't have 'a set' just one, works every time. Ordered one of these form the locksmith Hayes shop a couple of weeks ago. I did struggle with the lack of bindings for a couple of hours when I realised that the best way to get a false set, was light tension. Have picked it only once which took me about 2-3 mins. But that was probably luck rather than skills. |
