Locksmith Highbury thought it might pick with a 2 in 1 but don’t want to file mine down just in case this would be the wrong method also would it have false gates. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.
Sounds to me like a bent steel safe lock also from black country it will pick with a seven gauge universal 2 in 1 it will have 6 levers with straight fences the brass lock when you take it out the lid will have 2 cap screws on it and the lid inter locks it will have cut out in the lid and it goes on opposite to the lock easy pick but nice looking lock if that don’t sound too weird. Did it open? Not top of the range, most of them, but they did make some with large bolts which screwed into the safe body, to frustrate wedging. They made some strongroom doors also; but they are better known for their Arts & Crafts metalwork. They made to Pugin's patterns (as also did Hardman) - and the spectacular Hereford Cathedral screen, now in the metalwork gallery of the V&A.
Got a call to open a sentry safe fitted with a sentry lock on. I did not have a pick for it so done a little poking around and found that screwfix were selling the safes for £24. So I got one I tried to make a 2 in 1 out of a tan blank and a piece of wire, it sort of worked but was very sticky, I had mentioned this in a text to a safe engineer I know. Who offered to make a pick for the lock if I supplied the lock. Locksmith Highbury as you know I am deep in learning safes and the opening of them. So to get the old grey matter going. What is a control lever? How many levers does a ct12 have? Why can more bittings or combinations be made to a safe key. CT12 has seven levers , more bittings can be made on a safe key because you don't have to have a symmetrical key. Control Lever, this is still in discussions to what everyone calls a type of lever as to some monitor or control could mean the same thing!
I’m going to say a lever that controls the other levers, such as It could be the only one that is sprung like in a Kromer Novum pack and is the first lever that has to be put in the gate, or in a 6K174 or 6K75 it is the first lever that needs to be parked but in that lock it is not the only lever that is sprung. So I would say it is the first lever that needs to be parked in the gate before any of the other levers can become bound CT12 has 7 H gate levers. Don’t quite understand the question, other than what Bryan said, that the keys are not symetrical. So if it was say the better CT12 then there are 5 height with 7 levers so the maths is 5x5x5x5x5x5x5 = 78125 possible combinations there are MACS involved that get rid of unusable configurations such as a lock only having 7 number 2's etc. Quite a good explanation from the guys at the locksmith Highbury workshop. |
