Locksmith in Hendon be sure that the key they are using is actually long enough if it's not the original? A badly cut or slightly short key with these will mean the key is not quite long enough to allow the cam to activate?
It will however turn the plug. As usual on this forum, great response and great advice thanks, quite agree regarding UAP locks I scrapped all mine after three call backs in one month. I’ve plenty of options to at now, if there's no rush to get in once I decide it's the lock I think I might go for the spring steel under the key first I've never done that. Yep as already said these locks are junk and combined with a timpsons 'too much off the end' key and its game over. Rod-Based Snapper (even if I do say it myself) works wonders on 'snap safe' type cylinders. Just a quick update on this job, when I got there it was a UAP cylinder (sticking out 10mm on each side) so I just pulled it anyway one less to go wrong. Turns out the mechanism was tossed ERA with busted cam follower, so all’s well that ends well so thanks again for the info regarding anti snap.
I got called to a house where the women couldn’t lock her patio door, the wheels had disintegrated and part of the track was loose. I can change the wheels alright any ideas on the patio track, can source from kings but a bit puzzled how to remove, some are crimped on some are held by self tapping screw at each end, dependent on type. Still not left my job yet so not fully up and running with the locksmith in Hendon team yet but went to a friend of a friend job yesterday and thought it was going to be a simple one, embarrassed. UPVC French doors with the with two separate euros both with keys, both won’t open but the key on the slave will turns and I can feel it throw the cam mechanism. The other key will turn the lock but won’t throw the mechanism. I was about to snap the euro as my initial thoughts were it was just the euro but realised it was could be the mechanism and as it's not a rush job would do some investigation first?
Is it a shop cut key, it may not have enough on the tip and just turning the plug 360 without engaging the cam. If it turns and jams it’s more likely to be the mechanism. Had one like this yesterday on French doors in a pub and like Gordon says what was stopping it from opening was the bottom shoot bolt. You could feel the rest of the hooks and top shoot bolt were disengaged. I just got a spreader under it and then I could just see enough of the bottom shoot bolt to lift it and open. Took everything out and it was a faulty gearbox. The locksmith in Hendon guy could see that someone else had been at this gearbox before so it was a replacement job. |
