I've had a similar issue to you boys at the locksmith in Ilford, but not on such an expensive gate, it was a lockynox lock body which had been fitted to the gate before the metal bars were welded into the frame of the gate, usually on theses you remove the hole lock body by un bolting it through the front and then when lock body is removed you can get access to the retaining screw.
On this one though they had welded a steel bar right behind the lock body which meant I could still un bolt it but couldn't then remove the lock body so I had to just drill through the front of the gate to get at the retaining screw. Looked at lock box and it looked as there seem to be four screws in tried to chip away to get at slot at what seemed to be a screw head and it wasn’t did not want to do much damage just in case as cylinder is flush with welded on roses snapper bar would not snap cylinder either. This I think is where the rod snapper would come in handy which I have just ordered this weekend. But too late to use as I am doing job tomorrow.
Could be I know you lads at the locksmith in Ilford thought it might be riveted on? I would be surprised but I have seen them fitted like this before at a local school where I just drilled off the rivets. I have also had to drill through a gate box section to get at the retaining screw with a locinox. The last Locinox lock I had to change the cylinder on, I had to unbolt the mechanism from the style of the gate. If it is one of the newer versions, on the edge of the gate above and below the latch and bolt are 2 plastic caps. If you pop them off and then use a allen key to unbolt the mechanism from the gate and you can then access the cylinder screw, the older versions have a big grub screw with a slot in and Locinox do make a removal tool for that. You can make the removal tool out of copper tubing and make a Tennon in the end. Lockinox socket (tube with a cut) slips over the latch and unscrews the hidden nut, there is one on the deadlock as well, (be careful not to drop down the hollow of the frame) then you can get to the screw I got a socket if you need to borrow it.
I’ve had same a lockinox no visible bolts on gate edge ended up drilling edge of gate to get at fixing bolt replaced cylinder and had some black plastic plugs in van (from another job) stuck one in customer was delighted. A quick question for you over at the locksmith in Ilford on euros. Once a euro lock has been picked I have used a piece of spring steel to pick up the cam, this I find time consuming, I'm thinking I must invest in a plug spinner has anyone got any advice on this much appreciated. |
