Not really a safe job, more furniture lock. Try what the locksmith Isle of Dogs shop lad says, so when you put a small wire in to feel for the talon see if you can flick it to unlock. If it does then obviously remove the drawer before you investigate the problem.
Could be a few things? Part drawn bolt - Broken lever spring/s - Damaged or incorrect key - Broken bolt tail - foreign object in lock. I think it's a broken bolt tail as it feels the same as when you get it on a mortice if that's the case what's my best way forward. There isn't any movement in the drawer to get anything to put pressure on the bolt as it's a very tight fit, beautiful looking safe I might get one for my house If you think it's the tail, then insert the key to lift the levers. You want the key turned to around the 10.30 position from 6 O'clock. This assuming the bolt shoots up? Then insert a small wire to the left hand side of the key, with a leg high enough to reach the underside of the bolt. Leave the tip rough as this will help. Try and drag the bolt back while trying to find a point of contact with the wire.
Turn the key a little higher and lower as you do this as they will have to be at the correct lift to get the bolt back. The key they have is the one that they got with it so they are pretty sure its correct tried the wire to try and catch the bolt no movement at all its seized solid. Drenched it in gt85 for a good while beforehand, the locksmith Isle of Dogs customers have said they are not concerned whether the drawer ever locks again and want me to drill or cut it open as they have now convinced themselves there are valuables in there. So if possible I need the kill point for this lock as if I spend much more time on this I will be paying them, whilst a drill is a the last tool we should use this might just have to happen with this as I’m running out of options with it . Have you checked that it is locked, as if the bolt feels as solid as you say, though you can feel the levers lifting it could be that the bolt is drawn? If the bolt had seized this much the levers should have seized up a little too I would expect.
Remember as well that if it's a shoot upward bolt that the levers and bolt may be on the left hand side of the keyway, like a right mounted Chubb 3G220. I would give it a good hard tugging to check. Had a job to open a safe in an officers cabin, drilled in the right place for the stump only to find nothing, baffled gave up and went back the next day. What I didn't see was the layer of paint sealing the door shut and the door was already open. Stanley knife round the edge and bingo it opened, how about that locksmith Isle of Dogs, Ok so had another look at it today it's locked just won't budge so I guess I will have to pass on it thanks anyway. |
