If locksmith Kennington it is wires where can they be found, or could I make my own, I would need an accurate template? All help greatly appreciated as usual. Corkscrew under the low levers. Once mastered this is one of the easiest locks to pick.
Well done. A pick was designed in the 1850's, but then there several sizes of lock being made. Couple of people do have such picks today — but how many Bramah locks do you meet that need opening? The idea is similar to the pick commonly used for Ace-type tubular locks. However, here is a modern UK Bramah cylinder picked by hand on the bench. Today, the normal key supplied is no longer the ring-bow key, because if there is any binding of the bolt on an imperfectly-fitting door, it provides rather little leverage to move the uncommonly large bolts of Bramah locks. Today, the key supplied has a coined bow looking similar to keys supplied for Union 3-lever locks. All Bramah door, cabinet, and padlocks can be keyed en suite, replacement keys and spares are available. It is possible to have a rim cylinder (compatible with Yale-type rimlatches) keyed-alike with a Bramah deadlock. Old Bramah locks and copies can also be serviced. Just for the record, Fontaine is now Deny Fontaine. They still make the Deny warded 3lever cylinder lock, based on a late 18C idea by George Davis.
Fontaine, Laperche, and Vigie Picard are all similar 'pump' locks closely based on the Bramah, although the Laperche sliders are more like pins. Fairly common in France, though they seem to be losing market share gradually to pintumbler euros. I know nothing practical about upvc mpls, for example. I ceased to be an actual working locksmith Kennington after only a short time, when they made me manager, before that though when even aluminium doors were uncommon in domestic properties. I've seen the inside of more medieval locks than I have upvc mpls. Actually, I haven't seen inside any upvc mpls, though I have seen others, such as Italian-style lever locks. I've been involved with crime prevention for much of my life with central and local government. I started looking at locks in kindergarten, and I've been looking at locks for over sixty years. And I've been a life-long lock collector. For a dozen years I produced the newsletter for lock collectors. One lock I examined very early on was the lock on a tantalus my grandfather gave me, and I could not understand how it worked. It was a copy bramah of poor quality, and so knackered it did not work. I've always been fond of Bramah locks.
I have a lock jammed somehow - customer has locked door, and levers are all jammed up. I have a suspicion it is the wrong key, but levers are jammed. I have tried staddon reader key, but it looks like I was barking up the wrong tree with the reader key I've got, reading Stu's comments. I am left with having to drill the stump - never drilled one before, just wondering locksmith Kennington what side of the lock would be best. There is no spring in any of the levers. I was going to drill 20 up and 14 across. Just take out the stump. Whichever side the lock is same measurements or you could drill for the lever post if levers are jammed. Put a bolt throwing key in and drill lever post and turn key to unlock at same time. |
