Can you over at the locksmith Leytonstone make head or tail of this right key, wrong key, worn key, poorly copied key, all could of let the cam slip or helped a master pin to pop out. To sort the cylinder out properly it needs to be stripped down and rebuilt accounting for all the pins put back in their correct place, otherwise there's a good chance someone’s keys won't work.
I did try several of their keys and all worked perfect so by just tapping the casing freed the trapped pin or pins. I think it was just luck on my behalf. if locked jammed again I would do what you said. I swapped a couple of union 6 pin oval cylinders before crimbo on some offices thought ide have a shot at picking one but the buggers got me stumped can’t even get a pin to set.! There doesn’t seem to be any security pins or at least I don’t think so? no false sets nothing any ideas unions can be a hard cylinder to pick as the bottom of the pins are tapered, this mean that you get a turn in the plug and then has to be picked again as the pins are set on the tapers like having to sheer lines. I would alter the tension, rake with different picks and try spp. try the see saw method, rock the pick in the lock.
I had to snap an unbranded Oval Thumb-turn Cylinder on Thursday at one or our Royal Mail Delivery Offices. The bolt was engaged in the keep, locked obviously, the key just turned 360 as did the inside Thumb-turn, yet no bolt retraction. Tried tapping thumb turn with rubber mallet to try and engaging it into the cam with no luck. Just as a matter of interest what would you guys at locksmith Leytonstone have done? I replaced with new in the end. The thumb turn is not at hand so can’t show that. Single Pin Pick. Stu is suggesting you rake it to set some of the pins, then finish it off by SPPing the pins that aren't set. Technically a Mastered Cylinder (unless it's a 'BEST SFIC') should be easier to pick, because each pin-stack having two shear-lines means that you're more likely to find a shear-line, and thus open the lock, if that makes sense. I've had this in my practice pile for ages and despite being a cheaply made thing the warding makes it almost impossible to get the back pins, EPG is no use at all. It’s a good challenge that’s for sure. I will refer to the many other posts by the professional locksmith Leytonstone with regards to how certain locks are made and give the usual comment of, who exactly are the lock manufacturers trying to keep out. |
