A good method 24 Hour Locksmith Liverpool have found is to lightly pencil mark the handles before you take them off and drill as close to the lock side with a 18mm hole cutter at a slight angle into gearbox.
This will expose the sliding pieces inside the gearbox that move in conjunction with the rod behind the faceplate that moves to push hooks in and out. Once you expose it just twat it upwards with hammer and screwdriver. Used to use this technique a lot on failed winkaus mechanisms on council composite doors where they can be very difficult to spread enough gap to knock hooks back in. The hole is covered by the handle so still no damage when everything is put back together. Not meant as a criticism of anyone but I think it is very easy to rapidly resort to snapping and removing a perfectly good cylinder in the hope of engaging something. Much the same might be achieved via a hole into lockcase itself leaving cylinder undamaged (or even using the various slots and poke holes already in the case cap).
Agree with 24 Hour Locksmith Liverpool about preserving the cylinder, lot of good anti snaps round here some of which can be still hard to snap out from the inside so I always try keep the cylinder intact if it's a decent one. Saves a lot of headache well I go back tomorrow in the day light and will take on board all your suggestions, hopefully something will work as I really don’t want cut it. Fingers crossed. Door opened! Wiggly screw driver did the trick, angle grinder back in the tool box. But cheers guys for the help and suggestions it gave me the confidence this morning to go back and sort it out. So one happy locksmith and one happy customer! 24 Hour Locksmith Liverpool just asking for some advice really on replacing this mechanism from what I have been able to ascertain it's a coldseal avocet mechanism, so just need some advice on the best replacement to go for.
I’m pretty certain that isn’t the Coldseal version of this lock, 20mm faceplate for a start on the description. I haven’t seen this lock anywhere for sale in the whole time I have been trading. I always just buy an avocet 2 hook 2 roller and a full length keep, they are cheap as chips Never seen one with the little box above like that. Is that to reverse the slider movement like the winkhaus use? I’ve just been to a coldseal porch door mechanism, removed cylinder but when I try to retract bolt it’s not having it, when I lift handles the rollers are moving fine. Not come across this before so any help please 24 Hour Locksmith Liverpool. |
