Hello to all at the locksmith London, question regarding these, if the lock is picked and rotated until the trap pin springs into the plug, is it not possible to feel the bottom pins and find the trap pin and lift this back up?
I understand that the springs for the trap pind are under greater tension than the top pins and are very keen to spring into action. also are the trap pins normally in the same position or do they vary which chamber they will jam. Forgot that LOL. Been a hectic few days so forgot that. Mind you, the way he described his son, he sounded to sort to slam the door with the handle inside locked. Seems odd to me that moving the 'tongue' had no effect. It was quite free to move too. A lock out customer asked where's the nearest locksmith and naturally I just gave her a card and told her she would receive excellent service. Oh well I'll just keep working like a locksmith on fire, it's one of those mysteries that we get in this job, - like the 'mystery of the turned curtain. Locksmith London said the lock appears to be an older type, as it has a rounded latch, rather than the wedge-shaped one with 'ERA' cast into it. Also, no armor-plated escutcheon fitted to the outside of the cylinder, - just a 'pull'. If it IS an older one, it could be just down to wear & tear, but I somehow doubt it.
Had a lock out on a Euro yesterday as one of my emergency locksmith services. Lady had the key but would not go all the way in. Checked pins and they were all working OK. Checked that there was no key inside and there wasn't although the key was acting as if there was. A blank would go in all the way. Anyway tapped the key in and door opened. When I checked the the inside keyway it was turned to about 2 o'clock. When I removed the cylinder the cam was in the wrong position when the key was removed from the 'out' side. Never come across this before - any ideas on what happened to cause this. It sounds like it was a slipped cam on the cylinder. This can happen due to either wear of the cylinder, or the lock has been operated with a key, whilst another key was in the cylinder. This can be done also due to wear of either the cylinder or keys?
Because of this you often find that you can't get the key out the cylinder when you lock the mechanism. Simply because the cam is sitting in the wrong position. Locksmith London answer, should have put that in my post as well. I have seen this before where due to worn pins in the cylinder it's possible to take out the key when the plug is turned. With the plug on one side in this position, if the other side is then operated, it can cause the cam to align in the wrong position. I am assuming this has happened here. The key has been took out from the inside with the plug still on a slight turn, hence also why the key wouldn't go in from the outside as the cylinder is acting as though there is a key on the inside? Great reply locksmith London Thanks. |
