Locksmith Maida Vale pretty much only fit Securefast / Union / 'Chubb' now. Yeah not something you would want as stock. If it hasn’t got brass levers its likely to be iffy, well with the exception of the strongbolt, i like those.
I've never had a problem with the quality of any new Legge values yet several of my stocks of Strongbolts are rusting! I am not buying any more of them! I've got a Customer who has fitted an Ellis Lock to his gate Rolling Eyes , and now finds the keys are too short to go through the wood/metal box he's mounted it in etc. The only blanks I've got and can find for these are Zinc, so cutting and welding them is out. I've explained to him that the lock he's fitted wasn't the best option, but he said he didn't want a Rim Lock, so wants to replace it with a non-BS 5 lever. Any suggestions for ones that I can get long keys for please? Been looking and can't find them at all now, though I know I've seen them in the past. I've given the Customer various options, and will take it from there. One minor snag is the lock he's used has a 'wavy profile' to the keyway, so would restrict what key will go in.
I suggested straightening up the keyway a little, but not sure he liked that idea. This lock is one of the 5-lever Wickes BS mortice locks. It looks like an Era lock, but I can't find one that is exactly the same. Locksmith Maida Vale haven't got access to a mortice lock ID manual as such we just use online manual. What specific lock is it? It’s an old ERA Fortress. Just branded as Wickes. Most of Wickes's locks are ERA. I came across a 6 lever wellington mortise, I have been after one for a while, don’t see many about, I’m going to make up a set of wires within the next few days, if any of you would like to loan the lock after I have finished with it. Your more than welcome. Is there a special pick wire for the vectis? I’m trying to pick one with a multi gauge and just can’t get the wire moving and lifting freely. I’ve tried long and short wires thin and thicker wires tried filling the back edges down but it still doesn’t lift levers correctly.
The one i have is second hand from a job so I’ve knocked the hard plate off so I can see the slot from the left hand side so i can see what’s going on with the levers a little. The levers are hard to lift initially then when they are lifted to about 3 quarters of the correct height they just seize and won’t lift the extra bit that is needed. Although it feels more like a problem with the wire seizing rather than the actual levers. I only use the standard wires to pick them you might have to cork screw to get under 1st time then its fine also if you are not getting lift push down on the back end of the wire which will give you more lift hope this helps they can also be decoded like the profit so you know where to lift the lever. Which multi gauge have you got the old with the flat round paddles or the ones where the wire grub screws in with the indicator bars on the sides please use the locksmith Maida Vale contact us form below. |
