OK locksmith Marble Arch I use a Makita impact driver remove the bit (i use the 50 mm bits) hammer the no 2 philips into the screw then slip on the impact driver no problem. A euro should slip in freely, sometimes the pvc has to be filed also the handles need a bit of easing.
I have noticed that sometimes the handles have been fitted out of line and when you tighten the euro screw it puts a slight bend in the euro causing it to be stiff. Great tips I’m pretty sure ill encounter problems in the future i haven’t had any problems fitting euro's but then again I’m not a locksmith ! so do not do this day in day out, Just a dab hand handyman for family & friends. Incidentally one good tip when fitting a new Euro, is to always use the bolt from the old lock (if at all possible). The old one is going to be the correct length, whereas the new one is going to be uncut/standard length You're right, in most cases the removed screw will be ok to re-use. However, on occasions I have employed my drill to remove a retaining bolt as the one fitted was so long my wrists were going numb turning the screw driver.
If I'm changing just the lock, 99% of the time I'll use a manual screwdriver (unless I'm on a 'quickie 3-min turnaround Repo job'), but if I'm going to get the entire mechanism out, then I'll always use my drill to remove the screws. So much quicker, and looks a lot more Professional too. Also, the clutches on the drills are great for not over-tightening the screws in UPVC, when putting them back in. Another 'tip' that the locksmith Marble Arch guys found works, applies to those Euros that are fitted (usually upside-down) to metal, sliding patio doors. In many of the cases I come across the correct lock is the 16/10/16 ISEO, and getting the old one out is OK, but putting the new one in can be a very tight fit, - almost impossible to get back in, unless you slightly slacken off the screw/s on the edge of the door that hold the mechanism in. Anti snap will snap but only so far thus enableing you to still insert your key or pick if required. My question is - which really has me stumped.
With an Anti Snap Cylinder, are you able to pull the lock without the use of a base plate, or with the use of a base plate can you pull the plug from the cylinder allowing you to access the Mechanism. Can anyone tell me an emergency locksmith near me who supplies the Evva 3KS at Trade prices please? I have a feeling Aldridges do, though I can't seem to find them listed on their site - only the 'standard' Evvas. I'd like some Keyed Alike, but I'm guessing it's not straightforward to do this yourself. Has anyone on here repinned one of these, or gutted one? Same goes for Astrals locksmith services really too. I'd be interested to know if you guys at locksmith Marble Arch or anyone has repinned one on here. |
