Locksmith Neasden can you tell if the wire you are using is too long or short by the feel, so you just change it to a wire that 'feels' right in the lock. In time you get to know what wire is best for particular locks.
I agree about the pre-lifter on the E Chubb door locks. The wire needs to be exactly right in both height and off-set to be able to work through the levers, and even then very tricky. That's not to say they can't be picked, they can but I generally use the Staddon. Has anyone ever tried picking one of these things? Cheap assorted 8 gauge door locks that feels like easy to pick. Interested to know if you did pick it, what did you use? Really bummed opening a 5 lever lock today. Drilled and the bolt would not retract for love nor money. Had to cut the bolt through in the end and lever the door open a bit. It happened to us at the locksmith Neasden, don't beat yourself up over it the fact that you are gutted says it all mate, don’t worry about, happens to everybody it’s just most will never admit it.
High street job too with all the local idiots offering to boot it in for me haha Glad that job is behind me. So did I identified the lock as an old era, it was dark blue 7 gauge silver curtain etc, drilled and eventually realised I had the lever pivot post? So I went to the opposite side, tried lifting the levers but the bolt wouldn’t throw! So I drilled again in between my other two drill holes, and there it was, the bolt stump directly above the keyway. Not sure what it is, I think it might be a Stirling? i have seen them in black as well, would like to know what it is. But I found it a very good learning curve. And my audience was a very nice German lady whose son had locked her out of the UPVC front door. I was there for another hour having tea and cakes nice. Some bolts just don’t want to go back after they are drilled, the main thing I found was a decent sharp drill bit if its sharp and you let it do the cutting you get less bur in the lock cap.
Also I use to use an old screw driver ground into a point (bodging bar are their real names) and via the hole drilled drill a small hole into the bolt and the put you bar in it and pry it over. Yes tried all that wouldn’t budge at all. I think the tail piece had snapped off and jammed somewhere at the back of the UPVC door lock. Didn’t want to put any more holes in to try and find it one of those things they said at the locksmith Neasden. |
