Could anybody over in the locksmith North Finchley yard guide me to where i can find any topics on picking the era vectis, got a new development built and every door has one. I’ve got myself one to practice with but i think my pick wire is not up to it? i can't seem to lift the last 3 levers.
Think you need to shorten your pick wire length, if I recall they don’t lift as high in the vectis all pretty low. Once you get your wire right they pick pretty easy. Look for the first binding lever and just a small nudge to lift into place, then next binding, next binding etc. All the time though just very small nudges to lift. What will you be using to apply tension? I ask as you need to be able to reach the lock going through the door handles. Went to service 3 fire doors today's. Chubb 3r 35 fitted however they were not the x model which should be fitted as they can't be Double locked from outside. Which is needed when fitted to a fire door. Also as I have not spent much time on the bench I found something out. The job was to service and replace detainer packs and change the curtain. The bolt stump arm had 1987 stamp on it. Happy with that but when the stump entered the pack I noticed that the gates were shallower than the old ones. The levers were pattern 2 and 3 levers.
With this the stump bottomed out in the gating before the bar in the middle could retract the latch. Problem, well I had to shave the bolt down by 2mm. Job done. Symptoms were on changing the lever pack, the key would turn and pick up the levers, but not enough to throw the latch. Never seen that before. Did you supply the lever packs and were they all the same? Locksmith North Finchley did supply the lever packs from Duffells, the 1 that was a straight swap had the old anti pick type 1 levers, the other 2 that gave me dramas were the new ones. The gating when placed on top of the others were easily 2-3 mm shorter, weird, the beauty of this was looking and finding the problem and then sorting it out. trust me I did consider leaving the packs out. I wonder if it is a batch problem or something to do with the bolt stump, thinking back the bolt stump was separate to the bar and not formed from one piece which might be normal, I can honestly say i have not looked this deep before.
The locksmith North Finchley said it was easy, in the top right hand corner of the 3r35 is the snib back device with a ball bearing , if you take that out there is a post which the spring for the latch goes over and the top right hand cap screw goes into. Underneath the spring you will see a washer. Remove all the detainers and put the washer on the post then put all of the detainers back in the lock. That's it, the washer blocks the curtain from turning and the key from deadlocking the lock. That's for anybody that doesn't know how to This has now become a problem, ok the gates are not as deep and the filing of the bolt did work but i have just returned to site to find the key stuck due to the gating. I am having to refund the price of the levers packs and fit 3 new 3r35. Either new lever packs or a new bolt piece is the way forward, I will let assa abloy know. After you first posted this I had a pack with shallow gates and had to file them deeper, one of the levers was really shallow. The next pack I fitted for the locksmith North Finchley was OK. |
