Is this a standard feature, do I need 2 pick wires or just make an extra-long one? I'm using an RB curtain door lock pick tool I've been meaning to ask this for hours, but kept getting distracted, and then forgot!
I've got a 'faulty' Cupboard Lock to attend to tomorrow, - not sure what the fault is yet, as was just told 'it doesn't work properly'. Anyway, the thing is that it belongs to a Village Hall, so there are about 15 people that have keys to this. If I cannot repair the lock, is it possible to get 'lever packs' for this type of lock so I can repair it, and allow the existing keys to be used? I know you can with the 'big name' Mortise locks, but never seen any lever packs for the standard 'cupboard locks'. Are there any other options that would enable the existing keys to be used, as they're trying to keep the costs down, so they don't need to have 15 new piped keys cut. I doubt you will be able to get replacement levers, but until you see the lock I guess you can't gauge if it's just a simple repair job. Could be a lever spring broken, damaged bolt tail etc.?
9/10 these can be repaired pretty easily. I repair these all the time for a furniture import company who send me the locks which have faults. They generally can't replace with new locks to keep the integrity of the piece of furniture. I've repaired a few Furniture Locks in the past (mainly when the pin that the pipe key sits on has become disengaged), but often wondered if anyone had a source for lever packs for the 'standard' (SKS type) 'cupboard lock'. I thought it was a long shot, but worth asking. I've had a look at the locks, - turned out to be two locks in the end LOL. First one just really needed a 'strip-down', adjustment of the springs, and removal of small piece of broken pipe-key, in order for it to function efficiently. Second one had had the 'pin' that the pipe-key sits on, replaced with a screw Shocked , so I've stripped that one down too, tidied it up, and put a new pin in, and both locks work very smoothly now.
Very nice locks they are too really. Good quality brass, with four tiny levers in place. Non-handed too. I've taken some photos for my Blog, for when I get round to updating it. Just of a great London locksmith I have come across just for ref is the locksmith SE14 shop they have a very good selection of cupboard door locks. As I am looking for small locks to be replaced on a friends cupboard price wise could be a little lower though, but to get out of a jam thinking about it. Great advice and information on cupboard locks, catalogue of cupboard locks on that website is very helpful for me also. Thanks for sharing. |
