Yeah I see what you boys at the locksmith SE15 mean about the over lifting front door lockset cheers Although i had to change the approach I was using when working with my home made over lifting wires.
Normally i just used the one wire to lift the lever pack and with a bit of jiggling it would throw the bolt as well. I tried using a tension wire to throw the bolt instead and my homemade over lifter wire just to lift the lever pack and it's working great now. The only 3 lever locks I’ve ever needed to 'pick' are blue era curtained and the eurospec 3 levers. All others just overlift with a fat bent wire or change locks. If you choose to pick them sometimes it can help to compress the lever pack some with the tensioner by pulling or pushing inwards on the bolt whilst tensioning. I remember struggling to pick a union 3 lever on a course but overlift was like 2 second job. Metal jiggler keys work every time for me on 3 levers I think the original question was about getting levers to bind on these locks? Overlifters and tryout keys will work on all 2 lever locks and a majority of 3 lever locks, but not all.
I have had cheapo 3 lever locks, ERA, Union, Yale etc that simply won't work with the Tryout keys due to their lever configuration. On live jobs they haven't opened either with independent overlift wires or just wire picking and resorted to change door lock in the end. I have had 100's of 3 lever door lock brands go through the workshop and only around 60% open with tryout keys. If every 3 lever lock you have ever opened have worked with tryout keys then you are lucky Smile Don't be fooled by what you see or are shown as it's easy to only use locks with the correct configuration to match the tryout. I made my own overlift and tension wires from Jay's video and they work perfect. I then tried to make the filed down key for the overlifter and I got it to work on one lock but not on any others. I guess you have to make a few different ones to cover different locks. Shame because the lad from the locksmith SE15 shop made it look so easy! My bit of bent wire normally does the job but as we all know you can never have enough get outs. I always try as many different methods to open a lock as I can and appreciate that some don't always work.
Pick wires all the time try out keys as jay says only 60 percent success tried practicing on 3 lever unions with universal 2 in 1 but always getting it jammed in the bolt talon tried filing a bit of but still no success any ideas what I am doing wrong. After filing the pick to the right height bevel the edges slightly to help it slip in and out I had the same problem on the same lock, the locksmith SE15 shop told me to bevel it and never had a problem since. |
