Personally locksmith South Norwood I wouldn't attempt with the multi tool as it is frequently near 10mm thick steel at the bottom of the hook likely cutting spot.
Not saying it wouldn't work but a lot of patience required. If you had a long drill bit then maybe you could drill a hole through the centre of the bottom of the hook making a masonry chisel & hammer an easy option. Yes it will. Had one about a month ago Took about 10 minutes but got through eventually. Has anyone used the Yale Doormaster Professional Repair kit? I've got most angles covered for the mpls used around here but I'm looking for something to carry around on the van just in case. I wasn't very impressed with the Versa when I looked at it at the Nottingham show and I'm surprised that the Yale is cheaper I have used them a couple of times and have one in the van for those late night ones It works ok. The joints sometimes need a little cut out behind to allow it to sit flush with the leading edge. I use the CES Vario Flex kit for over nighters, been impressed with it so far, it's available at Duffells I think.
I picked one up cheap at the Expo I use the standard Yale mushroom one every now and then but I often find that when it looks like the only option it does not work. The locksmith South Norwood guys tried it on the Roto MPL and find the keep is too high and hits the door. With the old ones there's not enough adjustment on the hinge. I have fit loads of professionals never any real problems. A good lock for weekend work where you can't get a next day part. Have used the Yale and found it good to use however prefer the North-West Hardware repair locks simply because you can attach different gearboxes to them so I only need to carry one hook and roller extension and one roller extension and the keeps that go with them and they are cheap. That's what I was thinking about Rick when the earliest delivery you can get is next Tuesday. I'll take a look at your suggestion too. Thanks everyone for responding and mentioning the problems as well.
I don’t like the new Yale platform, the gearboxes are cheap. Never used the Yale repair lock yet. However used a few of the VERSA and they seem fine. Versa are the new GU platform right? Right but the versa universal system is really the pits. Put one on a door and would honestly never touch the thing again, thought it was very poor. It made the Doormaster look good which I'm not knocking too much cos it has its place sometimes. Standard Offset handles but never seen that exact style before? It would be handy if manufacturers put some type of ID marking on them somewhere! I have come across the above before where the fixed door has a rebate closing strip all the way down the door to house the keeps for the active door to close onto. This door has no screws down the length which normally hold the strip on. We locksmith South Norwood shop boys have in the past drilled for the euro retaining screw. |
