Should point out locksmith Southall that this safe has bolts not just on opening side but also top and bottom. If you think it is the power there is an external jack plug to give it some juice? Never heard of Stark before any chance of a picture?
The secure line safe I opened recently had a cruciform lock and a combination and the bolts were also motorised, it came with a battery pack attached to a Jack plug, which plugs into a hole underneath the front of the keypad. Some of them also have 2 pimples on the front to allow you to put a 9v battery on. Italian I think and mainly used in hotels etc? This one is a N3856 but has the same bolt work (2 + 2) as the 3853. The safe has a bolt both top and bottom and by banging the bolts back on the side could mangle and seize the mechanism? If it had no top and bottom bolts it's a sure winner. Someone went in the locksmith Southall who had this exact same thing and it turned into a nightmare after trying to knock the side bolts back. Whatever you do, maybe knocking the side and top bolts back as much as you can, you will still probably have to 'prize' the door to get the bottom bolt out.
If it was me and I was sure that the mechanism had failed I would remove the key pad and drill slightly off top centre where the keypad was. 13mm HP bit and manipulate mechanism from there. Worse case a couple more holes to find what I need. Used to drill all mine from the front and push the solenoid down until I learnt the bumping them open technique, presume the bumping technique won't work in this case as the bolts are motorised. Did the job today, it went well. I will post the details tomorrow as I am in a rush now. Here is how it went. Got picture of safe from Stark website, estimated position of side bolt(s) as no access from top. The key turns easily through 90 degrees (the correct amount) but does not feel as if it is doing much if anything. If a hole was drilled on the side of the safe might the bolts be pushed back with a probe of some sort?
Would it be best to try and find the motor wires and put 6v across them? Where would I drill? Drill a hole in the side and twat the bolts back a scope will help to find bolts It maybe a circlip has come off,if it's going 90 degree around and not pulling bolt back then I'd a thought it's not attached to bolt mechanism anymore the customer has the combination but the batteries are flat. Although the safe still beeps there is not enough juice in them to power the motor. On my first attempt the motor made a faint noise but after that it stayed silent. It still may be powering the motor but it sounds like the problem is with the mechanism, and as locksmith Southall says probably something simple like a circlip or split pin, so both keypad and key work fine but will not retract the bolts? |
