Locksmith Stanmore said it used to be a lot easier on mk1 and mk2 because there were no trap pins so the only risk when rocking the plug was resetting the lock but now with trap pins if you rock too far in one direction you will engage trap pins if you rock too far the other way you will reset the lock. To be honest I destroy most ABS these days with the puller then rotary pick on the cam.
Use a Long leg Tension tool that you push into the cam before picking. This way as soon as the cylinder is picked the cam, is already engaged I managed to adapt a Garrison blank to be a tension tool, works really well and engages the cam at the same time Smile However after a few goes picking it the key no longer operates the cylinder I don't think I've left a magnet in it because the key fully inserts it just doesn't turn anyone had this happen? Had a weird request today for a euro thumb turn cylinder with thumb turns both sides , my first question was how do you fit it in the door. Did think if you had a version which the knob could be removed that would work, has anybody else ever had a request like that.
That's just plain weird, you could make one up though the iseo ones I've use you can remove the grub screw that holds the thumb part on to allow you to pass it thought the door. My first question was if you use the thumb turn from one side and then go to use it from the other how does one side disengage to allow the other side to work I know it's a bit old-fashioned but have they got something against handles? There are some really nice ones nowadays. Just after a few opinions fro you guys in the locksmith Stanmore shop on a job I’ve been asked to look at. It’s a metal door with a Viro euro type lock in it, the door is locked and I have access to both sides of the door. The outside lock is very loose and continually spins when the key is turned, the key doesn't fit in inside lock, I can pick the rear lock open, but it refuses to turn and engage the latch.
The client is happy for me to deal with the job anyway I say fit, I’m thinking about snapping the lock and replacing it had a call out same as this 2 months ago key spinning in lock so I snapped the cylinder and the bolt thrower still didn’t work so used a piece of wire bent the end and pulled the bolt back, job done hope this helps. Euro or Screw in cylinder? And when you say you can pick it but it won’t turn do you mean it will turn but only so far and then go solid? I’m assuming it does turn so far, it is normal for these to be difficult to retract the hook (I am assuming it is a commercial style door with an Adams rite lock case?) According to Ian at thelocksmith Stanmore you just need to help the hook along by forcing it back whilst simultaneously turning the key. Probably just very tight in the receiver and once open you just need to dress the hole out with a file or Dremmel. You got a pic? |
