Well said locksmith Streatham Hill, and that's the real crux of it, being comfortable (as far as the job can dictate) and you are more than half way there with regard to getting the thing open I've actually asked customers to sit in my van whilst pick a lock that’s giving me trouble as I don't want them watching me.
I politely point out that I am responsible that the knowledge of how to access people’s homes is not widespread, which is actually a valid point. But really I just want no distractions. We can all pick well in our hand as you have the extra feel, no handles to dodge with your tension tool and no tutting customer breathing in your ear. I found that locksport also makes you too confident. When you go into a job knowing you can pick a lock in 5 seconds and then it doesn’t happen it’s not good for the nerves and you tend to rush. Being a locksmith is about satisfying the customer not proving your picking skills. You have to decide on the best options you have per scenario. On the subject of difficult euros, had a lock out today. Got there, euro cylinder, door locked. Customer had gone out but lost keys.
Tried everything for 40 minutes. And I could not get the thing open. I know I’m not greatly experienced, but I’ve never had a problem before. Picks, gun, tensioners, everything I had, but I couldn’t get it open. The lock had no markings on it or any names, so I guess it couldn’t have been that expensive a lock. So went round the back. Euro cylinder. Same detail so from the same door handle company. 25 minutes of picking, nothing. Couldn't get the thing to move. This was a GeGE lock. Again, picks and guns, I couldn’t budge it. Back to the front door, 10 more minutes, cold customer, patience running out, I had to say sorry, and leave it at that. Obviously locksmith Streatham Hill the first thing I do is doubt my own abilities, so as soon as I get home, I get the tools out and attempt my own front door, a Yale 6 pin. £30 seconds and I was in. So I then second guess that maybe I was doing something massively wrong. So any good advice as to what else to do in these situations? Why didn’t you just drill it after all that time - bet customer was mightily pissed off at wasting over an hour and then seeing a locksmith drive off. At least tell him that you are unable to pick so can you drill it? If he says no then drive off, you tried.
Reputation is everything in this game. Not every locksmith can pick all front door locks (despite what they claim on forums etc) so nothing to be ashamed of if you meet one you can’t pick. Then you have to resort to destructive entry if the customer Okays it. Some geges have no markings incidentally. Not having a pop - but certainly a customer should never be left out in the cold well that's what I think whats your opinions over at the locksmith Streatham Hill if they don’t want it drilled then so be it, you have no choice but to leave. But otherwise get them in! Also I think it's well past time locksmith prices went up. |
