Locksmith Sutton don’t know the lock you are referring to. The union Everest L 22147 and the J-L22172 both have the shoot bolt fixings, you can either fit them or leave them off. Both locks require a special spindle.
Both locks single lock and then double lock when the handles are lifted. The only problem I have come across is the main spring breaking and the tail jams the lock. There is no way of setting up these locks to either work the shoot bolts or disable them. Both these lock use a euro cylinder. You will also find the Union L2278 on aluminium doors this is just a simple lock no shoot bolts and uses an oval cylinder. Handles for the L 22147 are difficult to get. A must tool for the 22174 is a 10 mm ratchet. Just an update on the Everest Sash lock, once I had the door open it was quite an easy swap really, everything can be done on the door. Unscrew the bottom rod, first measuring depth of rod protruding, then top rod holding in place with the mole grips to stop it disappearing in the door. Removed lock and replace. Top rod no problem, bottom, a bit of a bugger, kept waiving around but got there in the end.
Hi locksmith Sutton, can anyone in the workshop help with this one, I've just been asked to do a job tomorrow for the local council and what I've been told is it's a UAP anti snap anti drill etc and it's just spinning round when the key is used I personally think it might be the mechanism that's causing the problem. But the person involved reckons it's the lock, if it turns out to be the lock does anyone have a bypass they would care to share to get it to unlock please. You could just pull it to snap it then with the cylinder removed you can work out if it’s the mechanism or cylinder that's at fault. Just make sure the pull screw is in far enough to bridge the sacrificial mark and it will snap at the cam like normal. If you have access to the inside you can just remove the handles then snap the cylinder. Unlock the mechanism from there in the normal way. Something else to try if you can't get to the inside of the door, but can be hit and miss?
File down the underside of a working key which I assume the customer has, insert it into the lock then insert a thin piece of spring steel under the filed key. Push it in slightly as you rotate the key round and it should pick up the cam. Continue to turn until the mechanism unlocks. If it’s a council application odds on it’s a thumbturn, quite common that the cam doesn’t engage, push inwards with a pair of pliers whilst turning. Failing you can use a wire to pick up the cam. If it’s not a thumbturn or none of the above work and you haven’t got a puller just stick a key blank in, snap bow off then snap it as normal. If it's a UAP it is probably 99.9% the cylinder as these have a tendency to simply fall apart! Go with locksmith Sutton guys suggestion first. |
