The locksmith Wapping boys sat and perused this topic all day, I know nothing about safes, but I know it’s just around the corner having to get some knowledge & experience with them. Reading these two fellas really makes me wonder how much i am going to have to learn, have i got enough life left to learn it all?
Or even come anywhere near to knowing enough about locksmithing? I’m just at the beginning of a very long road and I sometimes feel a bit over whelmed with it all, I bow to the knowledge of you two. I've been asked about the various bypasses for the Basic Home Safes, so thought I'd put it in the Advanced Section, rather than sending PMs out. Also done a video which is on here somewhere, though I can't find the link at the moment. Most of these small 'Home Safes’ all operate in much the same way, with an electronic solenoid, which drops to allow the bolt-bar to retract. The solenoid drops when either a current is passed through it. (usually when the correct code is entered), or when the plug on the lock is turned. The rear of the lock has an arm on, which depresses the solenoid.
Photo below shows inside the door of a Safe. The Hexagon in the centre is the back of the cam lock. To the right, is the bolt-assembly, which cannot slide across because of the solenoid which can be seen beneath the lock. Some ways the locksmith Wapping said to get the solenoid to drop are:- Give the top of the Safe a wallop with a rubber mallet, and a fraction of a second later, lightly turn the opening knob. Timing is crucial when doing this and it takes a bit of practice. (Be careful not to break the plastic on the Safe when doing this Razz) Depending on if the solenoid is magnetic or not, sometimes a very powerful magnet on the front of the door will enable the solenoid to be pulled-down. Make sure you place a sheet of mica between the door and the magnet first, or you may have a hard job getting it off! Picking the lock (obviously), or if all else fails, drill through the lock the knock the solenoid down with a piece of wire.
Other bypasses include:- Pushing a wire through one of the holes in the bottom of the Safe, which are intended to bolt it to the floor, and operate the 'Reset' button that is usually located on the inside edge of the door. Once this is done, your own code may be programmed in, and then entered, allowing the door to be opened. On some Safes, it's also possible to get a stiff wire in the top or bottom gap of the door, and again press the 'reset' button. Another way is to remove the batteries if they are mounted on the outside of the door, and drill a small hole through the outer skin of the door, and 'fish' for the two wires that run to the 'reset button'. Sometimes you don't need to drill a hole, but can use an existing screw hole. Locksmith Wapping don't recommend this DIY job, unless you know what you're doing. |
