Yes locksmith Welling it was a Shlegel, but as I said, I would have to have deglazed the door to get the mechanism out as it was not accessible from the door edge. The glass (taller and wider than me) was beaded with a thin black rubber seal and I have no idea how I would have got the rubber seals out or back in again and so I do not have the lock.
I have however ordered one so I will know in future exactly where to drill to gain access to manipulate the mechanism. I would normally manipulate a gearbox through the euro hole with a bent screwdriver, but you will see from my first posting that the euro was an ABS avocet and removal was not an option. It's a shame that you weren't available to offer advice when I initially posted asking if there was a drill point through which I could manipulate the mech. Anyway I will photograph the mechanism and explain what I find out when I receive the one I have ordered. I don’t know the drill point myself - so I would be interested to see a pic of the broken one and where a suitable hole needs to be drilled (under handle footprint) to access the sliding component within the gearbox with a bent screwdriver.
Rarely is there a need to snap/remove any cylinder from a mechanism the right hole(s) in the right place(s) under the handle footprint - and the right shaped tool - can usually operate something! Plus help get broken pieces out of the way in some cases first! The purpose locksmith Welling of an experimental drill hole was too look to see the sweet spot, however in this situation for me i would have picked the abs. as it would not snap and the bent screwdriver would not work. By picking the lock it will level the cam to remove the barrel, no bollocks, just use the key to remove the cylinder and then see what the problem is. The handle, do you mean the pull handle that has an up and down lever which operates a slider. The handle cam has been snapped. Would it have needed picking? Much as I like picking locks, time is money, and I'd have used the Customer's key to save time if possible.
Wink I've never been asked to fit an ABS, but don't you just use the key that comes with it, as in a conventional Euro? First thing I always do with a failed mechanism and I think most Lockies do to, is make sure the Cylinder is unlocked first. No point battling a failed mechanism, a locked one. I can snap ABS Very Happy, not that I would well hardly ever. I may have missed the point - I assumed the door wasn’t able to open even when cylinder unlocked with key as mechanism had jammed/failed. So locksmith Welling you can’t remove the cylinder picked or unlocked with key as you can’t remove the cylinder retaining screw until the door is open. Which it wasn’t! |
