Tried it myself in the locksmith Willesden shop and SOLID wouldn’t turn at all. Pretty sure not keyed the same. Removed lock and replaced with new euro, customer happy with them on different keys.
I have an unmarked rim cylinder that I managed to pick easily enough, but when it was turned 180% the pins jammed solid. Upon taking it apart to find out why, it has a slot cutout opposite where the key goes enabling the pins to drop into it locking it solid. Has anyone else come across this problem? (yes i did try a plug spinner but it still jammed) It has no brand name on it or the keys. I can only assume this is not a common problem? It's simply that as the plug has rotated, the top pins have caught the plug at 180 degree (the lock is picked!). They can often catch the groove that runs along the underside of the plug. All you have to do is use any flat side of a pick and push the pins back up out the way to release the plug. The same for Euro cylinders. Does anyone know where you can get the Yale Cylinders for PBS1/2s? As the nightlatch is BS, what are the alternatives if any? I need to repin one to the bitting pattern on the inside keyway. (Incidentally, has anyone on here repinned the keyway on the inside of these? I really need to see if this is practical too when I get a mo.) By the way I am getting a lot of work from leaving my locksmith number at the local gym advertised as a cheap local locksmith.
Checked SKS, Intolocks etc. Can’t find any. Duffels say they don't supply replacement cylinders for PBS1/2s, and I don't use Aldridge unless really pushed. Officially they told us at the locksmith Willesden shop they don't sell the cylinders separately. As said the newer ones use 6 pin x5 profile cylinders, others use 1a, as for the other profiles I've never seen cylinders with them for sale. Downgrading the cylinder will void the B/S rating, but if you change the front cylinder like for like will the B/S rating still be applicable, if the key is wrong in the handle. I've read this, though I think common sense needs to prevail. I've read about the 'screw' thing, and to be honest, who would be able to tell if it's an original screw or not as long as it's the same size and colour etc.
I've had brass screws from Chubbs break off when hitting hidden nails in the frame, and had to use alternatives, and I'm sure many of us have. I've even had the odd one that has the cross-head filled partially in, so it's impossible to use a screwdriver on it. There's also the situation we talked about recently, where if the original screws for the 'keep' were used in some cases, they'd be too long and go through adjoining glass. Personally, I feel it should really be a question of the security level remaining the same as the original package, and certainly not downgrading, though I had an Era BS to deal with recently, and that was fitted with a bog-standard 5 pin cylinder, and one bolt holding it in! (Someone at the locksmith Willesden yard must have got to it before I did). |
