We had success at the locksmith Woolwich workshop with one of these the other day using the RPCP it was the only one that I did have success with, tried the multi gauge tried the ICL curtain pick but found the RPCP with a fairly long homemade wire got it. I found you had to be quite brutal and almost just go for it continually nudging all the levers quite quickly.
If using the new generation CB pick if you don’t hear a click you may hear a snap. Just going by 'Tool Box', I assume a tool strong box the last one I did was a standard 5 lever. If there like the "van vault" type tool boxes I've seen them with era profit and one with securefast some are discus padlocks and can be dimple or cylinder too The few I've done have been KA ERA viscounts. Had to do two snapon tool stations in a large garage last year, both were 7 pin tubular locks. I do although this was a git as 4 was dead lift. 2 other locksmiths walked away as wanted to drill it. There lose as I got £190. But do agree you know it's going to pop. Customer has sent some pictures to us here at the locksmith Woolwich of a container lock. Need help for ID. Any tips/ advice welcome as I haven't attempted one of these before. Time to get an ID book.
First look at colour of lock case shape/style of curtain wheel can you see any hardplate near the keyhole and what shape is it, dimples either side of the keyhole? You can usually take a good guess if you know your locks. If not and you can't seem to pick it then an exploratory hole usually helps, most drill points are within the same square inch anyway. For my money, with it being a container that’s a Chubb? Even though the last one I did were legge blacks, but that curtain has the chamfer? Last one I had was an old Chubb sometimes there are a unpainted case which measures same as a Chubb for replacement. Yeah was thinking a old Chubb to be honest it's really rusty as its down by the docks. All fun and games thanks everyone for your input I'll let you know how I get on job is booked for Friday. Would you charge the same as a standard lockout or more?
Locksmith Woolwich boys have done these before for a local plant hire company. mostly they are 114's if on the old side. The newer ones are fitted with Fortress's. From the look of the one in the pic it will be a Chubb. Can be a nightmare as they are so knocked about they are often quite tight on the frame so makes getting the bolt back hard. Looks like a 115. As gold flush curtain. Could be a 117 but very rare. Most of these containers over here tend to be ERA usually viscount the last ones I did where on grimsby docks, the levers were all welded together with the salt air so picking was not an option, even drill to pick was hard because the levers all went up together! it was a nightmare. a good flushing out would be a good idea before you start? Well done and very interesting! |
