Hey Wimbledon locksmith the hooks are still not coming out with new mechanism fitted and all that was wrong was that the top hook was totally dry and needed a liberal squirting of wd40 before the strip worked perfectly again.
My point being, if you have what seems to be a faulty mechanism, it might just be worth removing the strip and giving every part a good squirt before replacing anything to see if it sorts the problem. A lot of upvc door mechanism and handles I come across just need to be cleaned and lubed up first and then work from there to notice if the door is working better. As for handles here is a very good tip. For getting out of trouble. If you come across handles that have broken through wear and tear I always carry a few pairs of universal sliding handles" which means you do not have to worry about knowing the centres for the handle and the euro lock because you can slide the handle up or down to fit. then in some cases re drill the screw fitting holes to fit the handle. Thanks you guys at the Wimbledon locksmith all sorted now spring cartridge worked after a fashion, but the square recess that the spindle sits in for the handles was so worn that there was still some slack. Fitted new handles today and all is well.
I fit a lot of GU Gearboxes. Many need the latch turning before fitting. I must be being thick, but if I follow the orange diagram on the side of the case, to show how to rotate the latch, it only works about one in ten times. Generally I have to remove a couple of screws in the case and very carefully turn the latch that way. So what is the correct method? Do you push the latch in first, then poke the hole with the screwdriver tip, or the other way round? And what exactly is the screwdriver supposed to be poking? Push down with screwdriver as shown, keep pushed down and pull out latch, then turn latch and make sure it goes back with a click. It is easier to pull latch out with a pliers, the instructions are so simple that you can`t understand them. I usually hold the mechanism with latch facing downwards push button in hard with flat screwdriver give mechanism a shake and let gravity do the rest.
Insurance Standards" for UPVc Door/Mechs I had a Customer phone me earlier asking if I'd pop round and check his UPVc doors etc. were up to his Insurers requirements. Now I realise that all Insurance Companies have different requirements (which I've asked to have a look at), but what do I need to check, (bearing in mind the doors are quite old now apparently). Am I correct in thinking that PAS24 doesn't apply here, as the doors are older? Do I just need to look for 'three locking points' (I've read about this somewhere, but can't find it now), and if so what constitutes a 'locking point'? Do 'Rollers'/'Mushrooms' count? He's got a UPVc door bettween the property and the garage, so that needs to be treated as a 'final exit' too. What about Patio doors Wimbledon locksmith? The locks themselves, don't need to be BS as they're likely to be pre-PAS24 too if the doors are old. |
